About Gemma Louise Jewellery...

Gemma Louise jewellery creates stunning Handmade Sterling Silver and Lampwork Glass jewellery from her own home  based in the heart of Devon, deep in the beautiful Dartmoor.

Gemma Louise has a degree in Contemporary Crafts from Plymouth College of Art where she learnt mainly ceramics, before falling in love with jewellery design and melting glass in her final year. From there she has taught herself many skills, and has slowly built up her own working spaces; a glass workshop for lampworking and a Jewellery workbench where she constructs her pieces

A host of techniques are used by Gemma Louise when working with sterling silver, such as various shaping and forming techniques, pattern and mark making to delicate soldering, stone settings and the more complicated anticlastic raising.

For those who are unsure, Lampworking is the art of melting glass rods in a hot flame, and winding it around a steel mandrel. It is then worked in the flame with the use of gravity to shape the piece into a bead – or any shape for that matter. Once the bead is complete it is placed in a kiln at 500 °c and slowly annealed (cooled) to room temperature to give the bead strength.

What makes Gemma Louise Jewellery different is that she creates all aspects of her pieces – both Glass and Sterling silver components. All silver pieces are hallmarked at the prestigious Goldsmiths in London.

Gemma Louise is constantly inspired by the natural world around us, especially by the sea, full of wonderful and magical colours and creatures. Colour plays a huge roll in her work and continues to drive her experimental work in glass forward. Here are some of the Current Inspirational Images Gemma Louise has taken:
